Italy

The Department of Human Movement and Sport Science (DiSMUS) belongs to the University of Rome 'Foro Italico', which is the only Italian and one of the few European vocational universities entirely devoted to sport and exercise science. The University is the direct heir of the Italian Sport Academy, established in 1928, and it is located in the monumental area of Foro Italico in Rome, where some of the City's most famous sport structures are located.
The University ranks among Italy's top most universities in terms of structures and teaching staff available per student.

The primary objective of DiSMUS is to contribute to the accumulation of knowledge on the phenomena implicating 'human movement', as they occur in daily life activities, work settings, in physical activity and sport and, more broadly, as they come to be associated with health maintenance, health promotion, and quality of human life. Its basic and applied research objectives are pursued taking into account different populations as they are defined in terms of gender, age, initial motor abilities, health status and risk factors, with the goal of maximizing performance or of preventing, educating, and therapeutically intervening via movement and sport practices. From a social value prospective, and from the standpoint of issues linked to participation, particular value will be assigned to research concerning personal safety and prevention, as well as the effective organization and management of structures and centers dedicated to physical activity and sport.
